Welcome to the Summer Term 2016 in Squirrels Class

Our topic this term starts with 'Travelling with Paddington'. We will start the term with 'International Week' where we will be learning about Brazil which will begin our learning of the Rainforest. We will be thinking about what Paddington will need to go travelling to the Amazon Rainforest. We will continue our learning about the Rainforest throughout the half term as well as learning about animals who live there and endangered species.

Our role play area will become a Rainforest which we can explore with Paddington. We will be reading books, including 'Paddington', 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear', 'Where's my Teddy?' and 'Jazzy in the Jungle' as well as non-fiction books about the Rainforest.

As we move into the second half of the term our topic moves onto 'Teddy Bears Picnic'. We will be planning a 'Teddy Bears Picnic' to have with our grown ups as well as making homes for our teddies and finding out where teddies come from.

We will also be exploring the story of 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Our role play area will become the Bears' house. We will sequence the story and discuss the feelings of the characters at different points in the story. We will also act out the story, adding music and using iPads to film this.

We will be cooking in our kitchen classroom throughout the term, starting with marmalade sandwiches. We will be cooking a range of picnic food including crunchy cookies, cheese and courgette scones and pizza as well as making porridge!

We look forward to sharing our work with you as we add photos of our learning throughout the Summer Term.

We have PE every Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit (named) kept in school as these will be needed in order for your child to participate in all activities.

Our cooking day is Monday. Please ensure your child has a named container with a lid in school on a Monday so that they can take their tasty treats home.

Please read with your child at least three times a week and record this in their reading record.
Please practice the sounds we have learned with your child, these are in your child's sound book, as well as encouaging them to read their words from their reading records. These will be updated as new sounds are learned.
