Foxes

Welcome to Foxes Class!


Summer Term 2016
 

In Foxes Class, our topic for the Summer term, is “Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus!”.
 
The children will be learning all about dinosaurs! We will be learning about history of dinosuars, including the ice age. We are going to be exploring the habitat and diet of dinosaurs and comparing them to current living animals. We will investigate extinction and will learn all about fossils.
             
We will be focusing on creating 3D sculptures and reseraching the famous dinosaur in Crystal Palace. We will be working alongside the artist Jessica Perry to create some wonderful permanent outdoor sculptures.

In addition to our topic we will also complete a variety of different learning activities during our themed week of “Brazil”.

Homework
Each Thursday, your child will receive literacy/maths homework in addition to their spellings to learn. This is sent home on a Thursday and expected back in school by the following Tuesday. If you have any queries in regards to the homework, please don't hesitate to speak to the Miss Anderson.  

 

PE
We have PE every Wednesday and Thursday. Please ensure that your child's PE kit is kept in school so that they have access to their PE kit at all times.

 

 

Cooking
We do cooking on a Tuesday. Please ensure that your child has a labelled container in school each Monday so that they can take home their delicious treats.

 

In Foxes Class, our topic for the Spring term, is “Land Ahoy!”.
 
The children will be learning all about pirates! We will be investigating the best materials to make a waterprrof boat that floats. We will be learning all about some famous explorers, including Horatio Nelson and Dame Ellen MacArthur and investigating different lands and oceans across the continents.
             
We will be focusing on creating artwork with fabric and different materials. The textile designer we will be learning about is Jody Roberts.

In addition to our topic we will also complete a variety of different learning activities during our themed week of “Japan”.

Autumn Term

In Foxes Class, our topic for the Autumn term, is “Sunflower House”.
      
The children will be learning all about sunflowers and how plants grow. We will be investigating the best methods to help a seed to germinate and thrive and will hopefully manage to grow lots of lovely plants. We will be learning all about the life-cycle of plants too and the processes involved in helping them to grow back each year. We are hoping to make lots of scrumptious treats this term, using sunflower seeds and sunflower oil to help us.
             
The children will explore the world of Vincent van Gogh and Georgia O'Keefe and will be re-creating lots of lovely art work. We are looking forward to heading out on a trip to Easton College farm soon to explore the different crops that grow in Norfolk and how animals live.

In addition to our topic we will also complete a variety of different learning activities during our themed weeks of “Australia” and “~Maths Money Challenge”.

Homework
Each Thursday, your child will receive maths homework in addition to their spellings to learn. This is sent home on a Thursday and excpected back in school by the following Tuesday.
Your child will also receive literacy homework on a Thursday. This work is to prepare them for their Big Write on a Friday morning. It is important that your child orally rehearses what they want to write the following day. Information about their Big Write will be given out on a Thursday.
If you have any queries in regards to the homework, please don't hesitate to speak to a member of the Foxes Class Team.
 
PE

Reading and Spellings

Children will have their spellings tested on a Monday or Tuesday, they will be given new spellings when they have spelt the previous ones correctly.

An adult will listen to your child read daily. They will also read on a Thursday or Friday. Your children's reading books will be changed on one of these days. You will receive 2-3 books, one that your child can access and one that they have chosen to share with an adult at home. Please take time to listen to your child read at least three times a week and sign their reading diary. There is a school incentive where they can win prizes for reading 3 times a week!
