We are really looking forward to the Autumn Term 2018 in Badgers Class. Our topic this term is 'All About Me and Celebrations'. During this term we will be learning all about ourselves, including our emotions and feelings, our bodies and our families. This topic will be supported through stories such as You Choose, Titch and the Rainbow Fish. Our role play area will be a family home corner to develop the children's role play skills, followed by a toy shop. We will be producing artwork on both a large and small scale to display in our classroom.
After the half term break we will have our first International Week which will be focusing on Japan where we will be looking at similarities and differences between cultures, including food, school, buildings and celebrations.
We will be cooking in our kitchen classroom making delicious recipes related to our topics, including smoothies, dips, biscuits and salads. For a full list of foods on our cooking menu please refer to our Autumn Term Topic Web which is on display in the cloakroom in Badgers Class and has been sent home via your child's bookbag.
We offer opportunities for physical education throughout the week in Reception, making use of our outdoor spaces. Later in the year Badgers Class children will have formal PE lessons on Tuesdays and Thursday, however they will still need to have their PE kits in school everyday.
Our cooking day will be Monday. Please ensure your child has a named container with a lid in school on a Monday so that they can take their tasty treats home! Please note on some occasions the children's cooking is eaten in class with the children as it may not be practical for them to bring their cooking home (e.g. toast).
Learning at Home
Please read with your child at least three times a week and record this in their reading record. Children should be encouraged to use their phonic knowledge to segment and blend words when reading new words for the first time.
We will be introducing Reading Eggs and your child's login details will be in their reading record. Please access this with your child to support their reading skills. We would recommend this is done on a weekly basis.
Please speak to Miss Stan, Mrs Bennett or Miss Southgate if you have any questions. We look forward to sharing our work with you throughout the Autumn Term! Please remember to check Tapestry for updates on what your child has been doing. You can also add your own observations onto Tapestry if your child has completed some learning with you at home which you would like to share.
